Violence-Related Offences

Marek is experienced in representing and defending clients charged with violent offences. If you have been charged with an offence involving violence, it is important to seek representation early. Allegations involving violence can be complex and result in significant outcomes for those charged.

Common violence-related offences include assault on a person in a family relationship, common assault, male assaults female, threatening to kill, assault with a weapon and assault with intent to injure. More serious examples can include aggravated robbery, wounding or injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, manslaughter or murder. Violence-related charges are commonly laid under the Crimes Act 1961. These offences often carry heavy penalties and can result in terms of imprisonment being imposed.  As you your advocate, Marek’s role is to guide you through each step with clarity, professionalism, and transparency. Whether this is to trial or through negotiation and assistance with the right rehabilitation steps to be in the best position in the circumstances.

It is no secret that domestic violence is an issue in New Zealand. Strict laws have been passed to reduce this as much as possible. The unfortunate effect of this is that in some cases, impulsive comments or actions made in the heat of an argument can be determined as violence or threats. Defences of such allegations should be strongly scrutinized.
